In Hocking Hills, Where You Stay Is Part of the Experience

Eco-Luxe Vacations' Twelve34 House, The Carpenter's Cabin, and GloCabin are spread across 32 wooded acres

When most people plan a trip to Hocking Hills, they start with the trails.

Old Man’s Cave. Ash Cave. Cedar Falls. Conkle’s Hollow.

And they should. Hocking Hills is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in Ohio.

But where you stay matters, too.

The right place can become part of what you remember about the trip—not simply somewhere to sleep between hikes. When you’re looking for a unique place to stay in Hocking Hills, the experience outside the parks can be every bit as important as the places you came to explore.

That idea is at the heart of Eco-Luxe Vacations.

Across 32 private wooded acres, we created three very different retreats: The Carpenter’s Cabin, Twelve34 House and GloCabin. They share the same forest, private trails, creeks and commitment to thoughtful design, but each offers a completely different experience.

A Unique Stay Should Feel Different From Home

There’s nothing wrong with comfortable and familiar.

But vacation is a pretty good opportunity to experience something you don’t have at home.

The covered deck at Twelve34 House cantilevers over the ravine below and has an outdoor kitchen with pizza oven.

Maybe that’s waking up surrounded by glass with the forest outside your bedroom. Maybe it’s sinking into a conversation pit beneath a four-story interior. Maybe it’s opening French doors from your shower directly onto a private deck.

We designed our properties around those kinds of moments.

Not because unusual features photograph well—although sometimes they certainly do—but because architecture can change the way you experience a place.

It can make you slow down. Look up. Sit somewhere you normally wouldn’t. Spend another hour talking.

Or decide that the hike can wait until after coffee.

The Carpenter’s Cabin: A Four-Story Retreat in the Pines

The Carpenter’s Cabin is our largest retreat, but its size isn’t what makes it unusual.

It’s the way the house moves vertically through the trees.

The four-story design includes a sunken conversation pit, steel staircase, loft library and workspace, two media spaces, multiple covered decks and unexpected places tucked throughout the house.

Outside, the experience continues with a hot tub, fire pit, Jaybird Fort, the fourth-story Perch swing and The Nest—our two-tier ground deck built among the trees for dining and hammocking.

The Carpenter’s Cabin sleeps up to 10 guests, making it especially well suited for families, multigenerational trips and small groups who want room to gather without spending the weekend on top of one another.

The Carpenter’s Cabin was designed to be unexpected. From its four-story layout and sunken conversation pit to the loft library, steel staircase and spaces tucked throughout the trees, the architecture is as much a part of the experience as the forest around it.

Twelve34 House: A Modern House Cantilevered Over the Ravine

Twelve34 House is what happens when mid-century modern architecture meets the woods.

Floor-to-ceiling glass puts the forest at the center of the house, while part of the structure extends over the ravine below. We’ve jokingly described it as our “luxury woodland penthouse,” and the description stuck because it captures something about the experience.

There are two king suites, each with its own bath, a chef’s kitchen, an outdoor kitchen, hot tub overlooking the ravine, gas fire table, massage lounger and a turntable with vintage vinyl.

But our favorite thing about Twelve34 isn’t an amenity.

It’s how the house feels.

Morning light through the glass. Dinner outside. A record playing while you’re making coffee. Watching the trees change from inside the house.

It was designed for people who appreciate architecture and interiors as much as they appreciate the destination outside them.

GloCabin: 450 Square Feet Surrounded by Forest

GloCabin's bath opens through French doors to a private hot tub deck.

GloCabin proves that memorable doesn’t have to mean big.

At approximately 450 square feet, it’s our smallest retreat—and perhaps our most immersive.

The cabin sits on a ravine peninsula with forest on three sides. A vaulted interior, oversized windows and five French doors blur the line between indoors and out.

The queen bed sits in the center of the space rather than tucked against a wall. The wet room opens directly onto the hot-tub deck. Three separate decks give two guests places for breakfast, swinging above the ravine or soaking beneath the trees.

It’s intimate, quiet and intentionally simple.

For couples or solo travelers looking for a Hocking Hills getaway that feels removed from everyday life, GloCabin offers a lot of experience in a very small footprint.

Three Retreats. One Private Property.

One of the most unusual things about Eco-Luxe Vacations isn’t any individual house.

It’s that all three are here.

The Carpenter’s Cabin, Twelve34 House and GloCabin sit separately across our 32 acres, connected by private trails while maintaining their own sense of seclusion.

That means extended families, groups and retreats can reserve the property together without squeezing everyone into one enormous house.

Three kitchens. Separate bedrooms and gathering spaces. Different decks. Different architecture.

And enough distance to disappear for a while when you’ve had quite enough togetherness.

We call it the Eco-Luxe Micro Resort: together, but not too together.

What Does “Eco-Luxe” Mean?

For us, luxury isn’t about adding more things.

It’s about being thoughtful about the things that are there.

Our homes were designed with sustainability, durability and healthier materials in mind. We made decisions guided by LEED principles, chose low-toxin and organic materials where possible, and designed around the land rather than trying to overpower it.

At the same time, sustainability shouldn’t require giving up comfort.

You can soak in a hot tub beneath the trees. Cook a great dinner. Sleep in a beautiful room. Listen to records. Drink coffee on a deck overlooking a ravine.

And still stay somewhere created with consideration for the property surrounding it.

That’s the intersection we’ve always been interested in.

Eco. Luxe.

Neither has to cancel out the other.

The Best Hocking Hills Trips Aren’t Just About Where You Go

By all means, hike the trails.

See the caves. Chase the waterfalls. Explore Hocking Hills.

But when you come back at the end of the day, your vacation doesn’t have to stop.

Some of our favorite experiences happen right here on the property: morning coffee beneath the trees, dinner on the deck, walking our private trails, sitting around a fire or spending an afternoon doing absolutely nothing.

Because the place you stay isn’t just where you sleep during the trip.

It’s part of the experience.
